She’s dead, Jim!

September 13th, 2018

As some of you might have figured out, Pictus development has died down. I rarely use Windows these days and the results of the Linux port have been somewhat lackluster, so my motivation is pretty much gone.

Hopefully Pictus will still be useful for you, but keep in mind that there’s no updates coming. Unless somebody decides to maintain a fork, any remaining bugs are hereby features 😉

Pictus 1.7.0 Released

September 3rd, 2016

This release adds some keyboard and mouse shortcuts for rotating and panning, plus it fixes a bug that could cause an error message when rotating or panning very fast. Next non-maintenance version will add support for GNU/Linux (and possibly more?)

Pictus 1.6.0 released

April 28th, 2016

This release adds WebP support, allows configuring of the next/previous mouse buttons and adds some extra keyboard shortcut actions. There’s also some various bug fixes, as usual.

Pictus 1.5.3 released

December 4th, 2015

This version solves a security vulnerability and fixes a bug where the status and title bars didn’t always update.

Pictus 1.5.2 released

November 22nd, 2015

This release only improves on Lanczos3 filtering, restoring it’s performance to 1.4.0 levels. Nothing else have changed, so there’s no rush to update if you are using bilinear or nearest neighbour.

Pictus 1.5.1 released

November 15th, 2015

This new version only fixes a bug that would cause English and Swedish to get mixed up. Having only bilingual testers is apparently not the greatest idea 🙂

Pictus 1.5.0 released

November 13th, 2015

Pictus 1.5.0 have just been released with both new features and a lot of stability improvements. The most notable additions is that Pictus now supports EXIF orientation data, so now all photos should be properly rotated by default. It also adds a few new ways to set the wallpaper, depending on which version of Windows you are using. Further, the “resize window to image” function have received some optimizations and should now feel snappier.

The biggest improvements though are invisible. Pictus have been now been subjected to weeks of automated testing which have uncovered quite a few nasty crashes when loading images. Some of these crashes may have been exploitable, so the upgrade is highly recommended from a security perspective.

Pictus 1.4.0 released

October 7th, 2015

Pictus 1.4.0 adds support for remapping keyboard shortcuts. It also improves support for JPG images with non-RGB color spaces, although handling is still far from perfect.

Pictus 1.3.2 released

September 13th, 2015

This release solves a potential security vulnerability concerning PNG images and bugged hover effects for drop-down lists.

Pictus 1.3.1 released

August 30th, 2015

Pictus should no longer temporarily display a streched image when switching between images and BMP support have been improved for certain files.
