Pictus 1.3.0 released

Pictus 1.3.0 now uses DirectX 9.0 Ex, which should make crashes due to lost devices very rare (such as upgrading GPU drivers while Pictus is still running) and possibly improve performance a bit. It also features Pictus’ first external bug fix!

The best ever viewer… was searching a long time for quick opening image viewer. If you can add support for HDR and EXR – it will be unlimited thanks!

Found Pictus today while looking for a replacement for ACDSee ’95, which I’ve been using since… 1995! New installation of Windows 10 (both ACDsee’95 and Pictus run fine under Win 10). Got tired of ACDsee not supporting PNG files and Win 10 seems to have done away with the Windows Photo Viewer, which did handle PNG files (slowly). So, I was motivated. I tried the free version of ACDsee but didn’t like it. Searched and found Pictus.

Pictus is a pretty good replacement for my old favorite and does exactly what I want: auto resizing of both image and viewer, zoom in/out, image delete, and window close using the Esc key.

ACDsee ’95 has been retired after 20 years.

    Thank you!

I really want to try pictus. I love tiny efficient programs and I´ve read from portablefreeware that performance is amazing loading big pictures.
I use XP because consume less memory than 7/8/8.1 and performs faster in all tasks that I daily use-

Could be possible get a link for the last pictus supporting XP? ver.1.1.4

    Thanks a lot!

I’m not entirely fond of making it too easy to download ancient versions that are more or less guaranteed to have security vulnerabilities. I’ll link them below though for those who run XP and avoids opening potentially hostile images. Caveat emptor.

thanks so much for the links!!! I was testing it and program is simple and efficient!!! Just an image viewer that load fast and run fast without bloated menus and gui. Speed is very similar to MMCE or picwalker. Perfect replacement for windows built imageviewer.

    Thanks again!!! 🙂

Pictus was working for me for a long time but I don’t get psd thumbnails anymore and it won’t load PSDs from images processed with the latest version of the Adobe RAW processor =( tried reinstalling and no luck.
